We have been getting a lot of inquiries for the past few weeks about our Tally on Cloud offering. Ironically, the lockdown keeps getting extended, making the Work From Home (WFH) phenomena the new normal.

Mark IT has been working fully remote for the past couple of months. While we’ve had our share of teething challenges, we hope that we have been able to provide you with the service you have come to expect from us. If so, please don’t forget to write us a 5***** review on Google! Your 60 seconds can go a long way in helping us get in front of prospective customers!

However, today we simply wanted to highlight what our Tally on Cloud offering is so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not the Tally accounting software on Cloud is the right move for your business.

A] What is Tally on Cloud – Key Things You Need to Know

  1. Servers

Tally on Cloud simply translates to taking your physical server in your office premises and replacing it with a virtual server hosted by a cloud company (e.g. Azure, AWS, Google Cloud etc.). The advantage of having a virtual server is; there is no downtime, and you can scale it (up or down) based on your needs.

  1. Number of Users

Just like on a physical server, you purchase a Windows license with an X number of users, you do the same thing on a virtual server for Tally.ERP 9. Also, it gives you the flexibility to add/remove numbers depending on your organization’s needs.

Note: This is different from the number of users you have on Tally.ERP 9.

  1. Annual Subscription

With a physical server, you need to spend a lot of money upfront to invest in a server. That server could become obsolete as your business grows, requiring you to continue to invest significant amounts of additional money to stay relevant. This changes when you switch to Tally.ERP 9 Cloud. With a virtual server, your upfront costs are SIGNIFICANTLY lowered. Plus, you can scale up/down incrementally at the click-of-a-button, without having to invest a huge amount, and it ensures no time lag.

  1. Data Integrity and Security

There are several pros to having a virtual server that a physical server cannot provide. Loss of data due to power outages, floods, burglary etc are threats you don’t have to worry about with a virtual server, as all your data is efficiently backed up across multiple server locations worldwide.

However, remember that while virtual servers are safeguarded from burglars, they are only as strong as your passwords to protect them from hackers! You can have the most advanced AWS servers with inbuilt protection, but if your password is ‘password1234’, no security system in the world can protect a hacker from getting in!

Furthermore, you will have the option of a ‘co-located server’ versus a ‘dedicated server’. The concept is simple. A ‘co-located server’ is a shared server that you share with other business while a ‘dedicated server’ is exactly that, dedicated ONLY to your business.

From a technology standpoint, both are EXTREMELY safe and secure than physical servers, so it is more a matter of preference and business policies rather than any real distinction in terms of performance between the two. As you can imagine, a shared server will always be slightly cheaper than a dedicated server.

  1. Maintenance

With a virtual server, there is (almost) ZERO maintenance! You don’t have to worry about crashed hard drives or incompatible RAM cards etc. The hosting provider auto-magically takes care of that giving it a huge advantage over physical servers on your premises.

However, there will be some maintenance cost associated with the virtual server since an administrator needs to ensure that your business has the right storage capacity, RAM, and is always running at optimal speeds, which is required to operate your business smoothly. But, if you compare the two – virtual vs physical server – the virtual server will always be a cheaper option than paying a hardware vendor an AMC to maintain your physical servers.
